How we work

Process timeline — no surprises

  1. Step 1: Walkthrough & written scope

We look at the job with you and put the scope into a clear written estimate.

  2. Step 2: Surface prep

Each surface is cleaned, repaired, and prepared the way its coating needs.

  3. Step 3: Product selection

Products are matched to the surface and named in your estimate.

  4. Step 4: Protected work area

Nearby plantings, floors, and fixtures are covered before work starts.

  5. Step 5: Progress check

We check prep, coverage, and details against the written scope as we go.

  6. Step 6: Final walkthrough

We walk the finished work with you and clear the punch list.

Materials & prep checklist

If a competing quote is significantly cheaper, this is almost always the part that has been left out.

  • Pressure wash or hand-wash chalk, pollen, mildew
  • Scrape failed film; feather edges
  • Caulk gaps that move with freeze-thaw
  • Prime bare wood, repairs, stain-block where needed
  • Mask landscaping, floors, and fixtures
  • Prep walkthrough before color goes on

Painter for a Day Knoxville gives you one skilled painter for a full day and a list of small jobs agreed on ahead of time. It is not a discounted whole-house repaint squeezed into eight hours. We set the list before we start so the day ends cleanly.

How Painter for a Day Knoxville works

  • Send photos or book a short visit. Photos often let us see whether a one-day list is realistic.
  • Agree on the list. Rooms, surfaces, and the items that must finish, in priority order in case time runs short. That list is the plan for the day.
  • On paint day we prep only what the list needs: fill, sand, caulk trim, spot-prime, cut in, and protect floors and nearby furniture. Then we paint or stain each item.
  • Mid-day we compare progress to the list.
  • At the end the space is tidy. Anything that should be a follow-up visit is written down.

We still use Sherwin-Williams. The 3-year written warranty covers the work we did that day, not a different term.

This is not an exterior repaint checklist. We are not pressure-washing the house, caulking the whole exterior for freeze-thaw, or masking an entire landscape for a one-room list. If the list is outside, it is a door, a porch ceiling, shutters, or a few boards, and the prep matches those items.

Good fits

  • A single bedroom, office, or guest room.
  • Hallway trim and doors.
  • Touch-ups after furniture moves or small repairs.
  • An accent wall or a front door.
  • A small porch ceiling.
  • A few deck or fence boards after a repair.

Poor fits

A whole exterior, a full interior, heavy scrape-and-prime work, or anything that needs several days of drying. Those belong on interior painting or exterior painting. If the list grows past a day, we say so and re-scope instead of rushing.

Getting ready

Walk the house and mark every spot. Write down colors if you know them, and set aside leftover paint you want matched. Clear small items from the work areas the night before. The more ready the rooms are, the more of the list we finish.

A day goes a long way when the surfaces are sound and the colors are chosen. A single bedroom's walls, a set of interior doors, or a front door plus touch-ups often fit. It goes less far when a dark color is being covered with a light one, when patches have to dry before paint, or when ceilings are high. We look at your photos and tell you what fits.

Lists we see often:

  • Touch-ups on trim, a front door, and one room before photos.
  • After a repair: a patched ceiling, a new drywall section, or trim around a replaced window.
  • One room where plaster cracks are filled and painted, or a porch ceiling refreshed.
  • Scuff touch-ups and a hallway between tenants, within the day's limits.
  • On a dry day: shutters, a front door, or porch railings.

Matching paint and setting the day

Leftover paint helps, but old cans separate or spoil. If yours is still good, we use it. If not, Sherwin-Williams can often match a chip or a small sample. Touch-ups on a wall with sheen can still show. Sometimes painting the full wall from corner to corner looks better than spots. We will say so when it matters.

Interior days can be booked through the year. Exterior items depend on weather. We pick a dry day with mild temperatures and may move the day if storms come in. Tell us about access and parking when you book so the day starts on time.

Painter for a Day is a defined day and a defined list, not open-ended hours. The written estimate names the list, the colors, and the materials. If something unexpected shows up, such as soft drywall behind a scuff, we show you and agree before we add it. If the list clearly needs more than a day, we either split it into two visits or move it to a regular estimate.

Questions

Is it really only one day?

The labor is one day unless we agree otherwise. Some products need a second visit for a second coat. We say that up front.

How is this different from a full project?

You are booking a defined day and list. If the list will not fit, we trim it or switch to a standard estimate. We do not print a rate on this page.

Can I add things during the day?

Small additions, if time and materials allow. Bigger additions become a new written scope.

Do you bring the paint?

Yes. If you have leftover paint to match, show us at the walkthrough or in the photos.

Call or text 865-606-6999. For a one-day list, photos often scope it quickly. Bigger work gets a 30–60 minute on-site visit.

What the day does not stretch to cover

One painter can cut in and roll a normal bedroom, or paint several doors, or refresh a porch ceiling and a front door. The day does not also include moving a house full of furniture, repairing a soft subfloor, or waiting out a second coat that the product says needs overnight. If the photos show heavy patching, we will say the list has to shrink or move to a regular interior estimate.

Colors should be chosen before the morning we start. A trip for a new chip in the middle of the day is how a one-day list becomes unfinished trim. Leftover paint is checked when we arrive. If the can is skinned over or separated past mixing, we match a fresh quart instead of putting bad paint on the wall.
